ChatGPT Business vs Claude Team: which plan should a team buy?

Same prices, same seat shapes, different strengths. Side by side, from both companies' own pages.

ChatGPT Business, called ChatGPT Team until August 29, 2025, and Claude Team cost the same per seat in October 2026: standard seats are $20 a month billed annually or $25 monthly, and premium seats with five times the usage are $100 or $125. Both include their lab's coding agent in every seat, Codex for ChatGPT and Claude Code for Claude, and both start at two seats. They differ in size (Business goes to 200 seats, Claude Team to 150), in what comes along (ChatGPT adds Work, Sites and Space, and @ChatGPT in Slack and Microsoft Teams; Claude adds Claude Tag in Slack), and in the models. Neither lets two people work in the same conversation with the AI.

Key takeaways

  • Identical seat prices: $20 to $25 standard, $100 to $125 premium, two seats minimum.
  • Each includes its coding agent in every seat: Codex with ChatGPT, Claude Code with Claude.
  • ChatGPT Business reaches Microsoft Teams and Slack today; Claude Tag is Slack only, with Teams on a waitlist.
  • Neither shares one live conversation between people. Tools such as Poly put both labs in one shared room.

How do the prices compare?

Seat for seat, they're the same: $20 a month billed annually or $25 monthly for a standard seat, and $100 or $125 for a premium seat with five times the usage. A team of five on standard seats pays $100 a month billed annually, or $125 monthly, on either plan. Extra usage works differently: ChatGPT Business owners buy pooled workspace credits, while Claude Team bills extra usage at API rates from prepaid credits, with spend limits for the whole organization or per person.

What does each plan include?

ChatGPT Business includes chat on GPT-5.6 Sol, with GPT-6 Pro messages (15 a month on a standard seat, 50 a week on premium); ChatGPT Work, an agent mode for long tasks that end in documents, decks, sheets or sites; and Codex. It adds company knowledge, connectors and plugins, Sites and Space, @ChatGPT in Slack and Microsoft Teams, SAML SSO and an admin console. OpenAI doesn't train on workspace data, and there is no self-serve data export.

Claude Team includes chat with Claude Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 (standard seats pay for Fable 5.1 with usage credits) and Claude Code in every seat, with 1.25 times Pro's per-session allowance on a standard seat and 6.25 times on premium. It adds Claude Tag, a shared Claude in Slack channels, SSO, central billing, managed Claude Code settings and a Claude Code analytics dashboard, with no training on your content by default.

Where is each stronger?

  • ChatGPT Business: up to 200 seats before Enterprise; Work, Sites and Space for documents and pages; an AI in Microsoft Teams today; a large plugin catalog.
  • Claude Team: Claude Tag gives a whole Slack channel one Claude without a seat for every Slack user; per-person spend limits on extra usage; a dashboard of Claude Code's lines accepted and pull requests.

Engineers often choose by coding agent, so the more useful question may be which of Codex or Claude Code your team prefers.

Can a team share conversations on either plan?

  • ChatGPT Business: workspace-only share links, which can include later messages; shared projects where members see and branch each other's chats; Pages in Space. How to share a ChatGPT chat.
  • Claude Team: organization-only snapshot shares; shared projects carry knowledge and instructions but not each other's chats; published artifacts. How to share a Claude chat.

Neither puts several people in one live conversation with the AI.

Can you use both labs in one place?

Teams that want GPT and Claude usually pay for seats on both plans. Poly (usepoly.co) is a different shape: a browser room where a group works with one AI, and each member picks GPT, Claude, Grok, Kimi or Muse for their own turns, in the same conversation. It runs Codex and Claude Code underneath, nobody needs a seat on either plan, and the people who run the AI pay $20 or $50 a month while everyone else is free. It doesn't replace each person's own chat app for daily work; it's for what the group does together. Multi-model AI coding explains how a room mixes labs.

Which should your team buy?

  • Your company works in Microsoft Teams: ChatGPT Business, since Claude Tag isn't on Teams yet.
  • More than 150 people on a self-serve plan: ChatGPT Business, up to 200 seats.
  • One shared AI in Slack channels without a seat for everyone: Claude Team, with Claude Tag.
  • Your engineers already prefer Claude Code or Codex: the plan with their agent.
  • A group that wants both labs in one shared session: Poly, alongside or instead of seats.
