Comparison
Claude Team vs Enterprise: what changes when you upgrade
The two plans don't just differ in size. One includes usage in the seat price; the other bills every token. What that means, and what Enterprise adds.
Claude Team and Claude Enterprise are priced differently, not just sized differently. Team charges a seat price that includes usage: standard seats cost $20 a month billed annually or $25 monthly and premium seats $100 or $125, for 2 to 150 people. Enterprise charges $20 a seat, billed annually, plus every token at API rates, with no usage included and no per-seat limits, from 20 seats self-serve or 50 through Anthropic's sales team. Enterprise adds the controls security teams ask for: SCIM, audit logs, the Compliance API, custom retention, IP allowlisting, a HIPAA agreement, customer-managed keys and US-only inference. Neither trains on your data by default.
Key takeaways
- Team: usage comes with the seat, with limits for each member. Owners can buy credits at API rates for anyone who runs out.
- Enterprise: $20 a seat plus all usage at API rates. Self-serve organizations prepay credits that everyone draws from; sales-assisted ones are invoiced monthly.
- Team lacks SCIM, custom roles, audit logs, the Compliance API, custom retention, IP allowlisting, a HIPAA agreement, customer-managed keys and US-only inference.
- Both include single sign-on, Claude Code in every seat, Cowork, Claude Tag in Slack (beta) and project sharing.
- Context windows are set by model, not plan: up to 1 million tokens on Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Fable 5.1 on both.

How much does Claude Team cost?
- Standard seats: $20 a month billed annually, $25 monthly, with 1.25 times Pro's per-session allowance.
- Premium seats: $100 or $125, with five times a standard seat's usage.
- Seats: 2 to 150. Beyond 150 means Enterprise (Anthropic).
Each member's limits are their own, so one heavy user doesn't use up anyone else's allowance. Past the limits, owners can buy usage credits at API rates and set spend limits for the organization, by seat type or by member. How the limits work: Claude Code usage limits.
How much does Claude Enterprise cost?
Enterprise is $20 a seat a month, billed annually, and all usage is billed at API rates. Anthropic says Enterprise seats "don't come with an individual token allowance" (Anthropic):
- Self-serve, from 20 seats: usage is bought upfront as credits the whole organization shares. When the balance hits zero, usage stops for everyone until an owner buys more.
- Sales-assisted, from 50 seats: usage is invoiced monthly in arrears, with invoicing and other currencies available.
API rates per million input and output tokens are $2 and $10 for Sonnet 5.5, $4 and $20 for Opus 5.5, $0.10 and $0.50 for Haiku 5.5 (five times that for prompts over 100K tokens), and $10 and $50 for Fable 5.1 (Anthropic). US-only inference adds 10%. From October 2026, Team subscribers also get up to $500 a month in API credits, pooled across the team (Anthropic).
What it comes to: chat is light; Claude Code and Cowork are not. Anthropic puts the average Claude Code cost on Enterprise at around $13 per developer per active day, or $150 to $250 a month (Claude Code docs). A heavy coder can cost more on Enterprise than on a $100 premium Team seat.
What does Enterprise add for security and privacy?
- Identity: SCIM provisioning, custom roles and groups, and domain capture. Both plans have single sign-on, just-in-time provisioning and domain verification (Anthropic).
- Oversight: audit logs exportable for 180 days, the Compliance API and IP allowlisting.
- Data: custom retention of 30 days or more; on Team, chats stay until users delete them.
- Health data: a HIPAA-ready configuration with a business associate agreement, on Enterprise only (Anthropic).
- Encryption and location: customer-managed keys for eligible organizations, and US-only inference.
Zero data retention is available for Claude Code on qualifying Enterprise accounts, not for chat or Cowork, and Anthropic keeps prompts to its Fable models for at least 30 days on every plan.
What do both plans share?
- No training on your conversations by default.
- Claude Code in every seat, plus Cowork.
- Claude Tag, Claude in a Slack channel, in beta; channel work bills to the organization.
- Shared projects inside the organization (how sharing works).
- Connectors that owners switch on and can restrict, such as read-only.
- Claude Design, Docs and Slides in beta. On Enterprise, some are off until an admin turns them on.
- Memory, off until an owner allows it and each member turns it on.
Anthropic's new merged Claude experience, rolling out since September 16, 2026, reaches Pro and Max first; Team and Enterprise organizations keep chat and Cowork as they are for now.
Which should you choose?
- Up to 150 people, predictable costs, no regulated data: Team.
- You need SCIM, audit logs, custom retention, a HIPAA agreement or invoicing: Enterprise.
- More than 150 people: Enterprise.
- A few heavy Claude Code users: premium Team seats often cost less than paying for their tokens on Enterprise.
Moving from Team to Enterprise self-serve keeps chats, projects and roles and carries over unused credits, but Anthropic says it can't be undone.
How does it compare with ChatGPT?
ChatGPT Business has the same seat prices as Claude Team and allows up to 200 seats, but no HIPAA agreement. ChatGPT Enterprise has no published price and bills from a credit pool or by the token. Details in ChatGPT Business vs Enterprise and ChatGPT Business vs Claude Team.
Working together in one session
Both plans give each person their own Claude. Poly (usepoly.co) is a shared room where a team works with one AI, Claude included, in one live conversation: everyone sees each step, and any member can approve a change before it's made. Free to start. What is Poly?
