Gemini Code Assist pricing: Standard, Enterprise, and what happened to the free tier

Google's coding assistant is now a business product only, bought through sales. The two editions, their limits, and where individual developers went instead.

Gemini Code Assist has two paid editions as of October 2026: Standard at $19 per user a month with an annual commitment or $22.80 month to month, and Enterprise at $45 or $54. There is no longer a free or individual plan: Google stopped serving the free "for individuals" tier and Google AI Pro and Ultra users in the IDE on June 18, 2026, and points them to Antigravity. Since September 4, 2026, new customers can't buy Code Assist in the Google Cloud console; they have to contact Google Cloud sales. Both editions include agent mode and the Gemini CLI, with 1,500 and 2,000 agent requests per user per day.

How much does Gemini Code Assist cost?

From Google's pricing pages (Google, Google Cloud):

  • Standard: $19 per user a month "with an upfront annual commitment," or $22.80 month to month.
  • Enterprise: $45 per user a month annually, or $54 month to month.

Subscriptions are billed monthly through a Google Cloud billing account. Google publishes no minimum seat count; licenses are assigned to users automatically by default, and one unused for 30 days can move to someone else (Google Cloud).

What do Standard and Enterprise include?

Both editions (Google Cloud):

  • Code completion, chat and agent mode in VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Android Studio, Cloud Shell Editor and Cloud Workstations. Agent mode runs in VS Code and IntelliJ and is still labeled Preview.
  • The Gemini CLI.
  • Help inside Firebase, Colab Enterprise, BigQuery, Cloud Run and Google's databases.
  • "Indemnification for code suggestions," and Google says your code isn't used to train its shared models.

Enterprise adds:

  • Code customization: suggestions based on your private repositories in GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket, up to 20,000 repositories.
  • More Google Cloud: help in Apigee and Application Integration, and Gemini Cloud Assist.

There is no Visual Studio extension.

What are Gemini Code Assist's usage limits?

Agent mode and the Gemini CLI share one daily limit: 1,500 requests per user per day on Standard and 2,000 on Enterprise, across every model. One prompt can make several requests, and requests are also limited per minute. Code Assist reads up to a 1,000,000-token context from your local codebase (Google Cloud).

Which Gemini models does Code Assist use?

Google's docs say "Gemini 3.1 Pro is available as public preview and Gemini 3.5 Flash is generally available" in VS Code and IntelliJ; 3.1 Pro needs an administrator to turn on the Preview release channel (Google Cloud). Google's newer models, such as Gemini 4 Argon, aren't listed for Code Assist (Gemini vs Claude for coding).

Is Gemini Code Assist free?

Not any more. Google launched a free tier for individuals in February 2025. On June 18, 2026, "Gemini Code Assist IDE extensions stopped serving requests" for that tier and for Google AI Pro and Ultra, and the Gemini CLI did the same; those users "can migrate to the Antigravity family of products" (Google). The free GitHub code review app followed: "Starting July 17, 2026, the consumer version is shut down" (Google). The enterprise GitHub app still runs, with at least 100 reviews per installation a day.

On August 20, 2026, Google also ended the first month of free credits it had given new business customers since January 2025 (release notes).

For a free option from Google today, there's Antigravity, an agent editor and CLI with a free weekly quota and an extension for Visual Studio 2026 (Antigravity vs Claude Code, Gemini CLI free tier). Gemini in Android Studio also keeps a free version for individuals.

Can you still buy Gemini Code Assist?

Yes, but not by yourself. Since September 4, 2026, "New subscriptions for Gemini Code Assist can no longer be purchased through the Google Cloud console" for billing accounts without one; existing subscribers are unaffected. New customers contact Google Cloud sales, and Google suggests Antigravity through Gemini Enterprise as the alternative (release notes).

How much is Gemini Code Assist in India?

Google publishes no rupee price. Customers paying in other currencies are charged the prices listed in their currency on Google Cloud's SKUs, through their Cloud billing account (Google Cloud).

Gemini Code Assist vs Copilot, Cursor and Claude Code pricing

  • GitHub Copilot: Business $19 a seat, Enterprise $39; Pro $10 for individuals (GitHub Copilot pricing).
  • Cursor: Teams $40 a user a month, Pro $20 (Cursor pricing).
  • Claude Code: in every Claude Team seat, $20 a month annually or $25 monthly, and in Pro and Max (Claude Code pricing).

Code Assist Standard matches Copilot Business at $19 on an annual commitment, but it's the only one of the four that new customers can't buy online.

One agent for a whole team

Gemini Code Assist puts an assistant in each developer's editor. Poly (usepoly.co) works the other way: a team works with one Claude Code or Codex agent in a shared browser room, sees each step live, and any member can approve a change before it lands. Free to start. What is Poly?
