# How to share a Claude project with your team

Project sharing is a Team and Enterprise feature, and it shares the project, not the conversations. The steps, the limits and what to do on Pro or Max.

**To share a Claude project, open it, select Share next to the project name, add people from your organization by name or email, choose Can view or Can edit, and select Share. As of October 2026, only Team and Enterprise plans can share projects, and only inside the same organization: Claude's pricing page lists project sharing as unavailable on Free, Pro and Max. Members get the project's knowledge and instructions and can chat in it, but each person's chats stay private unless they share them one at a time.**

## Key takeaways

- Team and Enterprise only. Pro and Max can't share a project with anyone, and no plan has link or guest access to projects.
- Two roles: Can view (read the knowledge and instructions, and chat in the project) and Can edit (change them and manage members).
- Chats inside a shared project are private by default. Shared one at a time, a chat is a view-only snapshot.
- Claude Cowork projects share the same way. Claude Code's new projects, in beta since September 17, 2026, can't be shared at all.
- For people outside your organization, share an artifact or a chat snapshot instead.

## How do you share a Claude project?

1. Open the project and select **Share**, to the right of the project name.
2. Add people from your organization by name or email. You can paste a list of addresses; Enterprise can also add a group, in beta.
3. Choose **Can view** or **Can edit** for each person.
4. Select **Share**. They get an email, and the project appears under **Shared with you**.

To open it to the whole organization, change **General access** from "Only people invited" to "Everyone at" your organization. Public projects then show in the Organization tab.

To stop sharing, open **Share**, select the person's role and choose **Remove access**, or set General access back to invite-only. Archiving a project doesn't remove its members. ## Which plans can share a project?

*Project sharing by Claude plan, from Anthropic's pricing and help pages, October 5, 2026.*

| Plan | Share a project? | With whom | Roles |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Free | No | Not available; up to 5 projects | None |
| Pro | No | Not available | None |
| Max | No | Not available | None |
| Team | Yes | People in your organization, or all of it | Can view, Can edit |
| Enterprise | Yes | People, groups (beta) or the whole organization | Can view, Can edit; owners set rules per role |

The Team plan is for 2 to 150 people ([Anthropic](https://claude.com/pricing)). Anthropic publishes no cap on how many members one project can have.

## What does a shared project share?

- **Shared:** the knowledge files, the project instructions and the ability to chat with Claude using them.
- **Not shared:** your chats. Anthropic says chats in a project "are not shared by default", even in a project the whole organization can see. To show one, share it on its own; the other person gets a snapshot they can read but not continue ([how chat sharing works](/share-claude-chat)).
- **Artifacts** made in a private project stay with its members.
- **Memory:** each project has its own memory space ([Anthropic](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11817273-use-claude-s-chat-search-and-memory-to-build-on-previous-context)). On Team and Enterprise, memory is off until an owner enables it and each member turns it on. Anthropic doesn't say whether members see what Claude remembers from each other's chats in a shared project.

Each project file can be up to 30 MB. Projects on paid plans switch to retrieval when their knowledge outgrows the context window, which Anthropic says raises capacity up to ten times ([Anthropic](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11473015-retrieval-augmented-generation-rag-for-projects)).

## Can you share a Claude project with someone outside your organization?

No. Projects stay inside the organization that owns them, on every plan. The workarounds:

- **Share an artifact.** On Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, an artifact can go to anyone with the link, or by email invite in beta; invitees need a Claude account. On Team plans, invites outside the organization are on by default; on Enterprise an owner has to allow them ([Anthropic](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/9547008-share-artifacts)).
- **Share a chat snapshot.** Free, Pro and Max can share a chat by public link or by email. Team and Enterprise can only invite addresses on the organization's domain.
- **Add them to your Team plan**, if they should work in the project.

## Can you share a project in Claude Cowork?

Yes, on Team and Enterprise. Anthropic says Cowork projects "share the same way" as projects in Claude, with the same Can view and Can edit roles ([Anthropic](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/14116274-organize-your-tasks-with-projects-in-claude-cowork)). Two limits:

- **Sessions can't be shared**, only the artifacts they produce.
- **Projects made from a local folder** stay on that computer and aren't saved to your Claude account.

Since September 16, 2026, Anthropic has been merging Cowork and chat into one Claude, starting with Pro and Max; existing projects carry over ([Anthropic](https://claude.com/blog/cowork-is-now-claude)).

## What about Claude Code?

- **Claude Code's projects** (beta, Pro and Max) are single-user. The docs say a project belongs to one user and can't be shared, threads included ([docs](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/claude-projects)).
- **Teams share through the repository:** a committed CLAUDE.md for instructions, `.claude/settings.json` for permissions and hooks, `.claude/skills/` for skills ([Claude Code skills](/claude-code-skills)), `.mcp.json` for MCP servers ([Claude Code MCP](/claude-code-mcp)), and plugin marketplaces for the rest ([docs](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/memory)).
- **Cloud sessions** can be shared by link, but people see the latest state when they open it, not live updates ([how to share a Claude Code session](/share-claude-code-session)).

More on that in [Claude Code for teams](/claude-code-for-teams).

## Who controls project sharing?

Owners decide, under **Organization settings > Data and privacy > Sharing**. Two switches, both on by default: **Share projects**, and under it **Public projects**. Enterprise can set them per role. Turning sharing off keeps existing shares but makes public projects private ([Anthropic](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/9927533-control-project-sharing-for-your-organization)).

## How is it different from ChatGPT?

ChatGPT shares projects on every plan, Free included, by invite or by link, and members can read each other's chats in the project. Claude keeps project sharing to Team and Enterprise, and keeps chats private. Details in [ChatGPT shared projects](/chatgpt-shared-projects).

## When you want to work in the same conversation

A shared project gives everyone the same context, but each person still talks to Claude alone. Anthropic's own comparison table answers "Who sees the work" with "Just you" for Cowork and Claude Code, and "Everyone in the channel" for Claude Tag ([Anthropic](https://claude.com/docs/claude-tag/concepts/how-it-works)).

- **[Claude Tag](/what-is-claude-tag)**, on Team and Enterprise, puts one Claude in a Slack channel that everyone in it can see and talk to. Other shared Claude products are in [Can several people talk to the same Claude?](/claude-group-chat)
- **Poly** (usepoly.co) is a browser room where a group works with one AI, Claude included, in one live conversation with shared memory. Anyone can reply, and any member can approve a change before it happens. Free to start. [What is Poly?](/what-is-poly)

## Common questions

**Can you share a Claude project on the Pro plan?**

No. As of October 2026, project sharing is only on Team and Enterprise. On Pro and Max you can share single chats as snapshots and artifacts by link or email.

**Can people see my chats in a shared Claude project?**

No. Chats inside a project are not shared by default, even when the whole organization can see the project. You can share a chat on its own as a view-only snapshot.

**Can you share a Claude project with someone outside your organization?**

No. Projects stay inside the organization that owns them. Share an artifact or a chat snapshot instead, or add the person to your Team plan.

**What is the difference between Can view and Can edit?**

Can view members read the project's knowledge and instructions and chat in it. Can edit members can also change the instructions and knowledge and manage who has access.

**Can you share a project in Claude Cowork?**

Yes, on Team and Enterprise, the same way as projects in Claude. Cowork sessions themselves can't be shared, and projects made from a local folder stay on that computer.
