# Are there multiplayer AI tools where several people work with the same agent at the same time?

Yes, though fewer than the hype suggests, and two of the biggest closed this year. Every kind, sorted honestly.

Published 2026-10-03, updated 2026-10-05 by Richard Kaminsky and Mitchell Lipyansky, the co-founders of Poly. Canonical: https://usepoly.co/multiplayer-ai-tools
Poly is a multiplayer AI coding workspace: a shared room where your team works with one AI agent, together. Free to start: https://usepoly.co/

**Yes. As of October 2026, several tools let more than one person work with the same AI agent at the same time, in three kinds of place: a team chat where one AI answers everyone (Claude Tag and Slack Code in Slack, Microsoft 365 Copilot in Teams, Dust); a group chat with friends (Poe, Jenova); and workspaces for building software together, where several people steer one coding agent live (Poly, HumanLayer, Zed's Delta, AQ, Superconductor, Coshell, Conductor). The two biggest consumer options closed in 2026: ChatGPT group chats stopped taking new chats on July 9, and Microsoft's consumer Copilot Groups retired from August 18.** Poly (usepoly.co) is one of the software workspaces, and its entry follows the same format as the others.

## Key takeaways

- For work in general, the shared AI lives in team chat: Slack (Claude Tag, Slack Code) or Microsoft Teams (Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio agents).
- For friends, Poe's group chats and Jenova put several people and an AI in one thread. ChatGPT's and consumer Copilot's group chats are gone.
- For building software, only some tools let several people steer one live agent session: Poly, HumanLayer, Zed's Delta, AQ, Superconductor, Coshell and Conductor. Others share the work but not the session.
- Before choosing, check who can approve the AI's actions and who pays for each turn. Tools differ more there than in features.

## Which tools put one AI in a team chat?

**[Claude Tag](https://www.anthropic.com/news/introducing-claude-tag)** (Anthropic, in beta since June 2026) puts one Claude in each Slack channel it joins, and anyone in the channel can mention it; it reads every message there, tagged or not, and keeps notes per channel, shared across the workspace from public channels. For Claude Team and Enterprise organizations only, with spending limits set by admins. **Best for:** companies on Claude Team or Enterprise that live in Slack. [What is Claude Tag?](/what-is-claude-tag)

**[Microsoft 365 Copilot in Teams group chats](https://support.microsoft.com/office/how-to-use-microsoft-365-copilot-in-teams-group-chats-2c613de4-cd26-4ae3-9e4b-6905d745d991)** answers when someone mentions it in a group chat. Only people with a Copilot license can ask it questions; others read the replies, and answers draw on the asker's own files and permissions. Agents built in Copilot Studio can also be added to Teams group chats. **Best for:** companies on Microsoft 365.

**[Dust](https://docs.dust.tt/docs/collaboration)** lets several people work with the same agents in one conversation and see its full history, by sharing the conversation or mentioning a colleague; everyone needs access to those agents. Free to start with 500 credits; Pro €30 and Max €150 a month. **Best for:** companies building agents on their own knowledge.

**[Slack Code](https://slack.com/blog/news/slack-code-channels-for-agents)** (Slack, August 2026) opens a temporary code channel when you mention a supported coding agent; any member can direct it, comment on its diffs and see a live preview. Included in Slack plans, with each agent bought separately. **Best for:** teams that want coding-agent work in the open in Slack. [Poly vs Slack Code](/poly-vs-slack-code).

**[qm](https://github.com/yc-software/qm)** is YC's open-source multiplayer agent harness: a company agent in Slack and on the web that you deploy on your own cloud. Free software; you pay for hosting and models. **Best for:** a company with a platform engineer that wants its own agent. [Poly vs qm](/poly-vs-qm).

## Which tools put friends in one chat with an AI?

**[Poe group chats](https://help.poe.com/hc/en-us/articles/19944206309524)** put several people and several AI bots in one thread. A bot answers when someone mentions it, and whoever triggers a reply pays with their own points. **Best for:** friends who want several models in one chat.

**[Jenova](https://www.jenova.ai/en/resources/multiplayer-ai-group-chat)** lets a chat's owner invite people into a live thread with one agent, where everyone sees the full history and files; each person's own memory is switched off in group chats. Free, with Plus at $20 a month, on the web, iOS and Android. **Best for:** a group that wants one AI in a shared chat on their phones.

**Poly** has a friends version too: two people plan a trip in one AI chat while the AI builds a trip board. [Poly for friends](/friends), and more trip apps in [How to plan a trip with friends using AI](/plan-a-trip-with-friends-ai).

**Closed in 2026.** [ChatGPT group chats](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/12703475-retiring-group-chats-in-chatgpt), piloted from November 2025, have accepted no new chats since July 9, 2026, and existing ones are read-only. Microsoft's consumer Copilot Groups, which let up to 32 people share a chat by link, retired from August 18, 2026, and their content was not carried forward ([Microsoft](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365-copilot/frequently-asked-questions-about-retired-copilot-features)). Where groups went instead: [How to group chat with AI and your friends](/ai-group-chat-with-friends).

## Which tools let several people steer one coding agent live?

**Poly** runs Claude Code and Codex in a sandbox on its servers, with a browser room around it: one timeline everyone watches, plain-language approval cards any member can act on before a change lands, a receipt per turn naming who ran it and what it cost, one-click undo, a live preview of the app, and a group chat the AI cannot read. Claude, GPT, Grok, Kimi and Muse are included, with no keys. Free to start; $20 or $50 a month per person who runs the AI. Its limits: hosted only, static publishing, one turn at a time per room. **Best for:** a small group, including people who don't code, steering one build together. [What is Poly?](/what-is-poly)

**[HumanLayer](https://www.humanlayer.com)** shares a running Claude Code or Codex session with teammates for a set time, so they can prompt it, interrupt it and resolve its approvals, with each message showing who sent it. Agents run on a daemon on your own machine or cloud. Free for up to three members; Pro $100 per user a month. **Best for:** engineering teams that run several agents through plans and review. [Poly vs HumanLayer](/poly-vs-humanlayer).

**[Zed's Delta](https://zed.dev/blog/delta-public-beta)** (public beta since September 16, 2026) puts the agent conversation and the code in a thread where everyone can steer the agent, edit files and comment; several people's drafts go to the agent as one turn. It has no agent permission system. Free during the beta. **Best for:** engineering teams, especially Zed users, who want to replace pull requests. [Poly vs Zed Delta](/poly-vs-zed-delta).

**[AQ](https://aq.dev)** runs the real agent CLIs on a dedicated machine that teammates join as a shared terminal, editor and preview. Free personal sandbox; Team $50 per user a month on promotion. **Best for:** engineers who want a shared cloud terminal. [Poly vs AQ](/poly-vs-aq).

**[Superconductor](https://www.superconductor.com)** is a workspace for engineering teams: a ticket starts one or several agents in cloud sandboxes, and anyone in the workspace can chat in any of them. Free with four members and 32 sandbox hours; Pro from $128 a month. **Best for:** engineering teams that want several attempts per ticket and review agents. [Poly vs Superconductor](/poly-vs-superconductor).

**[Coshell](https://coshell.ai)** is a self-hosted drive built on OpenCode, with one shared session, a named prompt queue and plan approval, on your own keys. $0 to self-host. **Best for:** a technical team that wants to self-host. [Poly vs Coshell](/poly-vs-coshell).

**[Conductor](https://www.conductor.build)** runs Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode agents in parallel git worktrees from a Mac app and, since July 30, 2026, in cloud workspaces a team shares: members open the same chats, see who is typing and prompt the agents together. Bring your own subscriptions or keys. Free locally; Pro $50 a month for up to five users; Teams $60 per user. **Best for:** engineers who want many agents at once on their own subscriptions. [Poly vs Conductor](/poly-vs-conductor).

## Which tools share the work but not the session?

**[Cursor](https://cursor.com/docs/cloud-agent)** shares a cloud agent run by link with teammates on the same Cursor team; if an admin enables team follow-ups, they can send it instructions, which run under the creator's credentials. Teams $40 per user a month. [Poly vs Cursor](/poly-vs-cursor).

**[Tutti VM](https://tutti.sh/en)** brings each person's own Claude Code or Codex into a shared room with shared files and state; a teammate can lend you their agent. Free in early access, by invite. [Poly vs Tutti VM](/poly-vs-tutti-vm).

**[Replit](https://replit.com)** gives each teammate their own thread with Replit Agent on a shared project, merged later. [Poly vs Replit](/poly-vs-replit).

**[Sharkly](https://sharkly.ai)** is a work tracker where tickets are assigned to agents running on your own machines. Free for up to 10 people; $7 per user a month. [Poly vs Sharkly](/poly-vs-sharkly).

**[Mosaic](https://mosaic.inc)** syncs everyone's coding-agent sessions into one shared place any agent can read. [Poly vs Mosaic](/poly-vs-mosaic).

**[Nimbalyst](https://nimbalyst.com)** is an open-source desktop workspace for Claude Code and Codex. Its Teams plan shares documents, mockups and trackers live, while each person's agents run on their own machine. Free; Teams $20 per user a month, free during its beta. [Poly vs Nimbalyst](/poly-vs-nimbalyst).

## Common questions

**Can several people use the same ChatGPT chat?**

Not any more. ChatGPT group chats stopped accepting new chats on July 9, 2026, and existing ones are read-only. Shared projects and Pages let people collaborate, but each person works with their own ChatGPT.

**Can several people use the same Claude?**

Yes, in Slack: Claude Tag puts one Claude in a channel for Claude Team and Enterprise organizations. To steer Claude Code together in a browser, tools such as Poly run it inside a shared room.

**Which multiplayer AI tools work for people who don't code?**

In team chat, Claude Tag, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Dust. With friends, Poe and Jenova. For building software, Poly is built so people who don't code can read every change, approve or reject it, and watch the live preview from a browser.

**Is there a free multiplayer AI tool?**

Several are free to start: Poly, Dust, Jenova, HumanLayer for up to three members, Superconductor for four, Sharkly for ten, and Zed's Delta during its beta. qm and Coshell are free software you host yourself.
