# Can several people talk to the same Claude?

Not in the chat window. Four other Claude products are shared, though, and each one shares something different.

Poly is a multiplayer AI coding workspace: a shared room where your team works with one AI agent, together. Free to start: https://usepoly.co/

**Claude's chat app has no group chat: as of October 2026 a conversation on claude.ai belongs to one person, and every way to share it gives others a view-only copy. Several people can work with one Claude in four other places. Claude Tag puts Claude in Slack channels and group DMs, where anyone can mention it and steer its work (Team and Enterprise, in beta). Claude Design lets a design's editors chat with Claude together in a group conversation. Claude Docs lets people edit a document at the same time and ask Claude for changes by mentioning @Claude in a comment. And artifacts can keep shared data that every viewer sees.** For a live group conversation with an AI outside Slack, people use other tools, such as Poe's group chats or a Poly room.

## Key takeaways

- No group chat in claude.ai, the desktop app or the mobile apps. Shared chats are view only, and chats in a shared project stay private.
- Claude Tag is the multiplayer Claude: one Claude per Slack channel, reading every message there. Team and Enterprise only.
- Claude Design has a group conversation with Claude for a design's editors, though Anthropic says editing at the same time is still basic.
- Claude Docs and shared artifacts let several people work on what Claude makes, but not hold one conversation.

## Does Claude have group chats?

Not in the chat app. We found no group chat in Anthropic's help center, release notes or announcements as of October 5, 2026. What exists:

- **Shared chats** are snapshots. Sharing with specific people works on every plan, but Anthropic's answer to whether someone can continue a shared chat is short: "No. Shared chats are view only" ([Anthropic](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/16762496-share-a-chat-with-specific-people)). Every option is in [How to share a Claude chat](/share-claude-chat).
- **Shared projects** on Team and Enterprise share a project's knowledge and instructions, and your chats in it stay private unless you share them ([Anthropic](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/9519189-manage-project-visibility-and-sharing)).

## What is Claude Tag?

[Claude Tag](https://www.anthropic.com/news/introducing-claude-tag), announced June 23, 2026 and in public beta for Team and Enterprise, puts Claude in Slack. Anthropic's own description: "@Claude is multiplayer. Within a given Slack channel, there's one Claude that interacts with everyone." It reads every top-level message and thread reply in a channel it belongs to, whether or not anyone tagged it; anyone in a thread can steer a running task; and it works in group DMs, so a few people can share a task without making a channel ([Anthropic](https://claude.com/docs/claude-tag/users/when-claude-responds)). Slack users don't each need a Claude seat. It isn't available on Free, Pro or Max, and Microsoft Teams has a waitlist with no date. [What is Claude Tag?](/what-is-claude-tag)

## Can people chat with Claude together in Claude Design?

Yes, if they're editors. [Claude Design](https://www.anthropic.com/news/claude-design-anthropic-labs), an Anthropic Labs product launched April 17, 2026 for Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, lets you grant edit access so colleagues can change the design and chat with Claude together in a group conversation. Other people can be invited to view or comment. Anthropic lists the limit plainly: two or more people editing a design at the same time "is still basic and may not work reliably" ([Anthropic](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/14604416-get-started-with-claude-design)).

## What about Claude Docs and shared artifacts?

- **[Claude Docs](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/16923645-get-started-with-claude-docs)**, launched September 16, 2026 and in beta: people with edit access work on the same doc at the same time as Claude, and everyone's edits appear live. To ask Claude for a change, mention @Claude in a comment. Every change is attributed to whoever made it, person or Claude, and opening a shared doc needs a Claude account.
- **Shared artifacts.** An artifact can use shared storage, where everyone sees and works with the same data, such as a game's leaderboard, up to 20 MB of text per artifact on paid plans ([Anthropic](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/9487310-what-are-artifacts-and-how-do-i-use-them)). Claude asks before turning it on, because your data becomes visible to others. In Claude Code, published artifacts can have editors on Team and Enterprise, who update them through Claude, and viewers can send comments to Claude.

These are documents and pages that several people work on. None of them is one conversation that a group holds with Claude.

## Where can a group talk to one AI together?

- **In Slack:** Claude Tag, or Slack Code for coding agents. [Poly vs Slack Code](/poly-vs-slack-code).
- **With friends:** Poe's group chats put several people and bots, Claude among them, in one thread, and Meta AI works in WhatsApp groups. ChatGPT's group chats stopped taking new chats on July 9, 2026. [How to group chat with AI and your friends](/ai-group-chat-with-friends).
- **To build or plan something together:** Poly (usepoly.co) is a browser room where several people talk to one AI, Claude included, in one live conversation. Everyone sees each message and reply as it happens, anyone can prompt, and a group chat beside it stays out of the AI's view. Free to start. [Multiplayer AI tools](/multiplayer-ai-tools) has the rest.

## Which should you use?

- **Your company is on Claude Team or Enterprise and works in Slack:** Claude Tag.
- **You're designing a prototype with colleagues:** Claude Design.
- **You're writing a document together:** Claude Docs.
- **Friends who want one chat with an AI:** Poe, or a group chat app with an AI in it.
- **A group building software, or [planning a trip](/friends), in one conversation with Claude:** Poly.

## Common questions

**Can you add someone to a Claude chat?**

No. You can share a chat as a link or with specific people, but it's a view-only snapshot they can't reply to. For a shared conversation, Claude Tag works in Slack, and Claude Design lets a design's editors chat with Claude together.

**Does Claude have a multiplayer mode?**

Not in the chat app. Anthropic calls Claude Tag multiplayer: one Claude in a Slack channel that everyone there can talk to. Claude Design also has a group conversation for a design's editors.

**Is Claude Tag available on Pro or Max?**

No. Claude Tag is for Team and Enterprise organizations only, and it's in beta.

**Can friends use Claude in a group chat?**

Not in Claude's apps. Poe's group chats include Claude bots, and Poly lets friends talk to Claude together in one room, for example to plan a trip.
