# ChatGPT Enterprise pricing: how it's billed, what it includes, and how to estimate it

There's no price list, but there is a billing model. What OpenAI publishes about Enterprise, what it doesn't, and how to estimate a quote before you ask for one.

**OpenAI doesn't publish a price for ChatGPT Enterprise. It is quoted by OpenAI's sales team, and "credit purchase prices and applicable discounts depend on your plan or agreement." What OpenAI does publish is how Enterprise is billed, in one of two ways: a shared pool of credits the whole workspace draws from, with no fixed rate limits, or seat fees plus usage charged by the token at OpenAI's rates and invoiced monthly in arrears. On top of everything in Business, Enterprise adds SCIM, enterprise key management, role-based access, the Compliance API, data retention and residency controls, and priority processing.** Per-seat figures quoted around the web are estimates, not OpenAI's numbers.

## Key takeaways

- **Price:** custom, through OpenAI's sales team. No published seat price, minimum or contract length.
- **Billing option 1:** a shared credit pool, with spend controls instead of per-seat limits.
- **Billing option 2:** contracted seat fees plus usage at OpenAI's token rates, invoiced monthly.
- **Adds over Business:** SCIM, EKM, role-based access, the Compliance API, retention and residency controls, priority processing.
- **Data residency:** storage in ten regions; inference residency in the US, Europe and the UAE.
- **New models** start switched off until an admin enables them.

## How much does ChatGPT Enterprise cost?

OpenAI's pricing page lists Enterprise with "Contact sales" and no figure ([OpenAI](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/pricing)). It publishes no seat price, no minimum number of seats and no contract length, and its sales team quotes each deal. The self-serve alternative, ChatGPT Business, costs $20 a user a month billed annually or $25 monthly, for up to 200 seats ([ChatGPT Business pricing](/chatgpt-business-pricing)).

## How is ChatGPT Enterprise billed?

**Credits.** The workspace buys a pool of credits that everyone draws from. "Enterprise/Edu users with flexible pricing have no fixed rate limits"; admins set limits instead, such as a monthly cap per user ([OpenAI](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/11487671)).

**Tokens plus seats.** Usage is billed by the token at OpenAI's rate card and invoiced monthly in arrears, together with contracted seat fees ([OpenAI](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/20001520)):

- The seats assigned at the start of the month set that month's seat charge, even for people who don't use them. Seats added later are prorated.
- A spending commitment is not prepaid credit.
- Token billing isn't offered for Edu or ChatGPT for Healthcare.

Workspaces without flexible pricing have "the same per-seat usage limits as Plus for most features."

## How can you estimate ChatGPT Enterprise costs?

Under token billing, usage costs what the same work costs on OpenAI's rate card, which is public. Per million input and output tokens: GPT-6.1 Sol $2 and $10, GPT-6.1 Terra $1 and $5, GPT-6 Astra $10 and $50, GPT-6 Luna $0.10 and $0.50 ([OpenAI API pricing](/openai-api-pricing)).

A rough example, our arithmetic and not OpenAI's: someone sending 30 messages a day to GPT-6.1 Sol, each with 5,000 tokens of context and a 1,000-token answer, uses about $0.60 a day, or $13 a month over 22 working days. A developer running Codex all day uses far more; Codex sessions resend the whole conversation on every step.

OpenAI's own example from its ChatGPT Work cost guide: a marketing team averaged about $309 per employee a year, with a median of $53, because a few heavy users drive most of the spend ([OpenAI](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/enterprise/chatgpt-work-usage-and-cost)). Seat fees under token billing are negotiated and come on top.

## What does Enterprise add over Business?

From OpenAI's pricing page and admin docs:

- **Identity:** SCIM, synchronized identity groups and role-based access control. Business has single sign-on and MFA, but not SCIM or "custom member RBAC" ([OpenAI](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/enterprise/work-admin-faq)).
- **Keys and oversight:** enterprise key management, audit logs and usage monitoring through the Compliance API, and user analytics.
- **Data:** retention controls, and data residency in ten regions: Australia, Canada, Europe, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the UAE, the UK and the US ([OpenAI](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/9903489)). Inference residency covers the US, Europe and the UAE, and ChatGPT Work doesn't support it in the UAE.
- **Speed:** priority request processing.
- **Health data:** OpenAI's help center says sales-managed Enterprise and Edu accounts can sign a HIPAA business associate agreement, which Business can't.

Both plans keep business data out of training by default. More in [ChatGPT Business vs Enterprise](/chatgpt-business-vs-enterprise).

## What models does ChatGPT Enterprise include?

The same lineup as Business, including GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6.1 Terra and GPT-6 Luna in ChatGPT Work and Codex. On Enterprise and Edu, "the model is off by default until an administrator enables it" ([OpenAI](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/enterprise/workspace-model-availability)), so a new model doesn't reach staff until someone decides it should. Eligible Enterprise and Edu plans also get Ultrafast mode for GPT-6.1 Sol in Codex.

## How much is ChatGPT Edu?

Also unpublished. OpenAI lists Edu as "Credit-based pricing" through sales; Edu Plus and Edu Pro seats have usage that "aligns with" Plus and Pro ([OpenAI](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/enterprise/education-plans)). ChatGPT for Healthcare has no published price either.

## ChatGPT Enterprise vs Claude Enterprise

Anthropic publishes what OpenAI doesn't: Claude Enterprise is $20 a seat a month, billed annually, plus every token at API rates, from 20 seats self-serve or 50 through sales ([Claude Enterprise pricing](/claude-enterprise-pricing)). The structures are close: ChatGPT Enterprise's token option is also seats plus usage. The difference is that with Claude you can work out the bill before talking to anyone.

## Working with both labs

Plenty of companies end up buying both. Poly (usepoly.co) puts GPT and Claude in one shared room, where a team works with one AI in a live conversation and any member can approve a change before it happens. Free to start. [Multi-model AI coding](/multi-model-ai-coding)

## Common questions

**How much does ChatGPT Enterprise cost?**

OpenAI doesn't publish a price. Enterprise is quoted by its sales team and billed either from a shared credit pool or as contracted seat fees plus usage by the token, invoiced monthly.

**What is the minimum number of seats for ChatGPT Enterprise?**

OpenAI publishes no minimum. Business, the self-serve plan, covers 2 to 200 seats, so Enterprise is usually for larger organizations or those that need its security controls.

**Does ChatGPT Enterprise have usage limits?**

Workspaces on flexible, credit-based pricing have no fixed rate limits; admins set spend limits such as a monthly cap per user. Workspaces without it have per-seat limits like Plus for most features.

**What is the difference between ChatGPT Business and Enterprise?**

Business is self-serve at $20 to $25 a seat for up to 200 users. Enterprise is priced through sales and adds SCIM, role-based access, key management, the Compliance API, residency controls and priority processing.

**Is ChatGPT Enterprise cheaper than Claude Enterprise?**

It can't be compared from public numbers: OpenAI doesn't publish Enterprise prices. Claude Enterprise is $20 a seat a month plus usage at API rates, from 20 seats.
